So you want to know all about us and how Southern Essentials began? First of all, you might be interested to know that I have always been somewhat of an artist-at-heart. I love to create and am always looking for a new medium to express myself. I have worked in paints, crosstitch, ceramics, polymer clay, quilting, and even digital art created with a computer program. I don't claim to be a great artist, but I do so love to create things for myself. Years ago after I had my first child, I began to develop psoriasis on my elbows. After my second child, it seemed to get worse and even worse still after my third and youngest child. It may just be a coincidence that it got worse after having each child, but nevertheless, it became a huge problem for me. I have tried every over-the-counter cream there is and have tried a few prescription remedies to try to gain some control over this skin condition and have only had minimal success. One year, my sister gave me a handmade bar of soap and some handmade shea butter scrub for my birthday. It sat in my bathroom for several weeks before I decided to treat myself one weekend. I lit some candles, soaked in a hot tub, and used the wonderful scented soap and scrub. WOW!!! What a revelation I had!!! It was the smoothest my skin had been in YEARS!!! No I'm not cured, and I still work closely with my doctor, but WOW, what a difference handcrafted soaps and other spa products have made for my skin! I decided right then and there that I would NEVER use another store bought bar of soap on my body again. I ordered several more bars of soap, along with handmade lotions, salves and scrubs. Then one day I had this thought. Why can't I make my own spa / skin care products? After all, Who knows better than me what my skin needs? And so the research began . . . .How to make the products . . . .which ingredients had the best qualities . . . .and where to get these ingredients. After getting all of my ingredients and supplies together, I put together some recipes and began to create my very own spa / skin care line. Once the creating process was complete, we had to try it out of course. So I used the products, my family used them and when they told me that they Loved everything that I created, I moved on to my sister, the rest of my nearby family and friends. When they started coming back for more, I knew that I really had something special. So I decided to make my products available to everyone. So there you have it. We began through my need to develop a special skin care product for myself and my love to create as well. |
